Part 6

Part 6 of The Search by Sage Lock

The grotesque stench of the clan leaders breath filled the air, and my heart quickened, like setting a metronome higher and higher, until I eventually answered, “What are you talking about!? How can we not be on Earth anymore, all we did was shipwreck, that’s all that happened!!”
He only chuckled, and silently stared at the wall behind me, then saying, “When your ship crashed, you emitted a high frequency sound wave that alerted enemies of your location.”
“So what are you saying?  That you are not an enemy?”
“I’m saying that one of my spellcasters located your family, but not you. Then they were able to teleport you and your family to our island, but were for some reason uneasy teleporting you here as well, knowing that you are one of us too.”
A sudden chill made me shiver down the length of my spine. “What do you mean one of you?”
“How could you not recognize it yourself, when you released your energy of magic on the beach.”
Again I remembered the beach, Karen and her fighting against the light that encased her, and struggled to fight back tears. “Do you know where Karen is? What happened to her?”
“She was teleported out of the area by someone other than us, and I think you know who it was.”
I racked my brain, struggling to come up with an answer and asked, “What did you mean when you said I released magic on the beach?”
“I mean that you are a part of one of the four ancient guilds known as the Magician’s Guild.”
I then whispered to him, now knowing what had really happened, but unable to accept it, “You know who teleported her away don’t you.”
He nodded his fur encased face and replied, “Yes, you were the one who had teleported her.” I then realized that it was me who had eliminated Karen from my life forever.

"The Search" Part 5 by Sage Lock

“The Search” Part 5 by Sage Lock

My eyes opened to a dimly lit wood hut, the only source of light coming from a solitary candle sitting on the oak, wood table. The flames danced in the air, only to end when a breath of wind came from the doorway, which was guarded by two wolfbird guards. They wielded mighty war spears, and also, they each wore a medallion and armor. The medallion I noticed each had a sword carved into the wood. I then realized a similar one hung around my families, and my own neck. However, we had been drugged, unable to see clearly, everything surrounded by a hazy fog. Without sensing any reason to stay awake, I drifted into a sleep, wishing that this time, it would be dreamless.

Instinct told me someone was staring at me, so I cautiously opened my gray eyes and lifted my head to see who it was. It was another wolf bird mutation, and I saw another medallion hanging around its neck. This one had a crown and scepter carved into it, and then I realized who he was after glancing at his clothing and his crown.

“You must be the king of this God forsaken land then!”I yelled at him. “What do you want with us!?” But I knew it was useless, because only humans had the gift of understanding its own kind’s speech.

I was surprised when he replied in a heavy grunting type of accent, “No, you came here without permission, my people have beheld this place as a sacred type of land of prayer for centuries.”

“Y-y-you can understand me?” I questioned, unable to understand how.

He nodded, “Yes, my people can understand any foreign language.”

“Oh…” was at first the only sound I could muster, then “What land is this? There is no island this large on any map we had on board our ship?” “There is no island of this size on any map anywhere on Earth!”

He only laughed at my statement, “Foolish human! You ‘re mind is unable to comprehend that you aren’t even on an island!”

“Well then, what mainland are we on?”

“You are on the mainland known as Novinion.” He replied.

“You’re just kidding around! There is no such thing as Novinion!”

“Maybe not on Earth, but what if I told you…you weren’t on Earth anymore?”

Part 4

Part 4 of “The Search”

I looked around me, thinking that they had been moved within a few yards of the space I was standing in. But no, they were nowhere near me. I slumped to the ground in defeat, thinking, what was i really fighting for? This was the last thing I thought before a club caught me in the back of the head, and I blacked out.

When I finally came too, I noticed that my body had moved to a different location…tied up with my family. Joy spread through my body and I was about to say hi, when I noticed that their eyes were blank, staring in one certain direction. Blank, staring eyes were focused on a point in the air, however when I followed their eyes, I saw nothing.

I eventually gave up on starting a conversation, “Oh my God, what am I going to do? I questioned myself. I had finally found my family, but they weren’t the same, and I had a feeling they never again would be. I could only hope that Karen hadn’t met the same fate. First things first, I needed to get my family out of this place, but how?

Part 3 (FINALLY!)

Part 3 of “The Search” by Sage Lock

Save family members

I stood in stunned silence, only able to helplessly watch as the mutated wolf bird things beat and kicked my family. I would have to get them out of there, but how? The room was circular, and guarded by more mutated animals. I would have to devise a plan of escape. I searched the room for something that would give me an idea of an escape plan. Other than lots of meat, I saw noth-. Wait! If I could get my hands on a lot of meat, I could place the meat outside the den and go in grab my family, and get out. By placing meat in piles in a bunch of different places, I could also give myself more time to get my family.

Later that night, when all the wolf clan’s people had fallen asleep I crept in, and grabbed 10 pieces of meat, then snuck back out. I placed 3 pieces of meat in 3 piles scattered far away but close enough for them to smell. I decided to keep one piece, intending to keep it as a food supply tomorrow. There was nothing to do until morning, so I rested…with one eye all night open of course.

That morning, I greeted the daylight with a yawn and stretch, but soon remembered the dreams I had encountered last night. One about Karen, who had told me that I had never even cared about her, and how I only cared about myself. Shaking these dreams away, I thought to myself, will I really be able to find and save her from whatever had taken her?

At around noon, the wolf camp awoke with growls, and the rubbing of eyes. But soon, all of them had noticed that their meat was gone, and began searching for it. When they had all gone, I rushed to where I had last seen my family, ready to give shouts of joy, when I realized…they weren’t there, they were gone…

Part 2 of "The Search"

After a sleep full of nightmares about Karen, I woke up to still find that I was on that beach, that this wasn’t some huge nightmare. I decide one thing is certain, I am alone and I need to stay alive to find those people that I care about. First things first I think, I need to find some water. I glance around my surroundings, and notice that the only thing that would be able to keep these trees alive, would be freshwater, so I begin to hike into the forest dense with trees and different shrubbery.

I find animal tracks unlike any I have seen before, and follow them, hoping they lead me to food or water. As I track the prints, I sense someone…or something following me. I try to shake off this feeling of being followed, but it’s as if I can feel everything living around me, like we were connected in some way, shape, or form. Eventually, the tracks stop at a clearing filled with a lake and freshwater. I immediately walk into the lake laughing joyously at my discovery, when I feel the sensation of being pulled under water.

My eyes blink, and suddenly I am again on the deck of Iglasius talking to my father.

“Seth, if anything ever goes wrong on this boat, follow the stars.”

I lazily flick my blonde hair roll my blue eyes, and say to him, “What the heck is that supposed to mean?” He doesn’t reply, but looks to the ground and sighs.

Suddenly my eyes open, and my mind snaps back to reality, where I am sinking, sinking….sinking. AND SLUUUUURP, I am falling, and then SLAP, I hit solid mud. I think back to days before we set sail and find myself thinking to when I was talking to my 10 year old sister Kaili, about how she had gotten into my stuff.

“KAILI!!!!” I had yelled, “WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM!!!!!????”

“Nuthin”, she replied.

Then I had done something I will always regret.

“I HATE YOU, AND I WISH YOU HAD NEVER BEEN BORN!!!!” I had yelled. But what was strange was now I had gotten what I wished for, she and my whole family were gone. Then I was back in reality, my yell still echoing in my ears.

Unnerving sounds surround me as I trudge through the mud, such as animal cries, and wolf howls…or so I thought. I noticed that as I walked forward, the sounds got louder, and louder until eventually they started to sound… human. I walk faster now until I reach the clearing from where the noises were coming from, and find myself face to face with my shipwrecked family tied together with rope by an angry clan of mutated wolfbirds.

Part 1 of "The Search" By Sage Lock and Intro of Myself + Why I'm Doing This Blog

Hello! My name is Sage Lock, and I am posting parts of a book that I am working on. Eventually, when it is finished, I plan on sending it to a publisher....sooooo, I hope you guys enjoy the story! By the way, these parts are going to be pretty small, but hopefully I will be publishing 1 part a day and feel free to post comments (clean comments only please) and here goes part 1!

Karen and I dragged our bodies out of the ocean dripping and spluttering water as we came. After gulping the salty air around us, I surveyed the island, looking to see if anybody else had survived the wreck. Around me, I saw bushes, sand, trees, more sand......but I could see no other survivers.

"I'm so sorry Seth, but your family...didn't make it", said my girlfriend Karen as I continued to survey the area, not accepting the fact that my family was gone. No...they weren't gone, they couldn't be!

I slammed my fist into the sand and screamed "Nooooooo! This can't be happening! It just can't!" Tears threatened to claim the space on my face, when I looked up at Karen and could see the sorry look in her eyes.

    "I'm so sorr-."

"No Karen, I'm fine", even though I clearly wasn't. I had decided that whatever happened, I swore to myself that I would keep Karen safe from whatever lied in front of us whether it be beast, man, or...something else. I told Karen that I would get two spots ready for bed while she searched for firewood and two firemaking rocks.

I started leveling out two areas in the sand for Karen and I to sleep in when Karen yelled to me, "Hey Seth come over here, I think I found something!" I got up from the two sleeping spots, and jogged over to the area where Karen was. She was pointing at a greenish glowing rock that had settled in a spot in the sand.

When she started moving her hand towards the rock, I said, "Karen don't touch it!" But it was too late, her fingers had brushed the surface of it and she looked towards me like she was about to say something. However all of a sudden, a greenish veil surrounded her and had started lifting her into the sky. I jumped, and tryed to grasp her hand...missed. Again and again I called her name as she screamed from inside the light, when all of a sudden the merciless green veil of light brightened, and...disappeared with Karen. The last thing of Karen I remember was when the light disappeared taking the frightened looking Karen away from my life forever. I now know one thing, and that is that I was alone. But I also know another thing, and that is that I will stop at nothing to find Karen.
